The Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corps (Buckley Space Force Base) is seeking applications for our unpaid 2022 spring, summer, and fall externship programs. As an extern, you will gain hands-on legal experience in diverse legal practice areas while learning more about the Air Force JAG Corps.
Externs work under attorney supervision at Buckley Space Force Base. An extern’s duties vary based on need, but duties typically include researching legal issues, writing legal briefs and opinions, conducting investigations, interviewing witnesses, and performing other tasks as required. Externs support attorneys in numerous practice areas including criminal law, legal assistance, civil and administrative law, labor and employment law, international and operational law, space and cyber law, contract and fiscal law, medical law, claims and tort litigation, and environmental law.
The U.S. Air Force JAG is also hiring 3L students as Judge Advocate Officers through the Direct Appointment Program (DAP). Third-year students may apply to the DAP (i.e., once two-thirds of the credits required for your ABA-approved law degree are complete). If selected, you will not enter active duty until you are medically cleared, pass the bar and receive your license and certificate of good standing. The Air Force JAG Corps selects applicants based on the “whole person” concept. Selection factors include: academic performance; work experience; leadership traits; extracurricular activities; personal integrity; demonstrated elements of core values; awards and honors; adaptability and flexibility; motivational statement; and military records (if applicable).
Address cover letter to Lt Col Rhea Lagano.
