WilmerHale Focus: Diversity and Inclusion and the Women’s Leadership Initiative

We are excited to introduce you to WilmerHale Focus, which offers a glimpse into life at our firm.

At WilmerHale, we believe that the various perspectives, backgrounds and experiences of our lawyers enable us to develop innovative solutions for our clients’ most complex and challenging legal issues. We are committed to a culture that embraces diversity and fosters collaboration and collegiality. With a legacy of leadership on civil and human rights in the United States and around the world, diversity and inclusion is woven into the core fabric of our firm.

“Diverse individuals make organizations stronger by broadening perspectives, deepening access to talent and helping to foster innovation. Expanding our strategic lens on the world with a focus on diversity and inclusion is quite simply both fair and makes business sense,” says Co-Managing Partner Susan Murley.

At WilmerHale, you will be a part of a firm that is recognized for fostering the careers of women and diverse attorneys.
  • For the second year in a row, WilmerHale was awarded the second-highest spot on The American Lawyer’s A-List in 2019, scoring a mere one point lower than the top-ranked firm. In 2018, WilmerHale narrowly missed first place and achieved its highest position ever since the list’s inception in 2003. This prestigious list highlights the top 20 law firms in the nation that excel in associate satisfaction, diversity, finances and pro bono.
  • Law360 listed WilmerHale as a “Best Firm for Women and Minority Attorneys” for the second year in a row in 2018. WilmerHale was one of only two large firms to have above-average representation at all levels in terms of both race/ethnicity and gender, according to Law360’s Glass Ceiling Report and Diversity Snapshot.
  • Working Mother magazine and Flex-Time Lawyers named WilmerHale a 2019 Best Law Firm for Women; the firm has received the honor every year since the list first came out in 2007.
  • WilmerHale was named a Top-Scoring Firm in the 2019 Inclusion Blueprint survey, a collaborative project between Diversity Lab and ChIPs that measures law firm inclusion and diversity at the leadership and practice group levels.
  • WilmerHale achieved Mansfield Certification Plus status for 2018 and Mansfield 2.0 Certification Plus status for 2019. The Mansfield Rule’s goal is to boost the representation of diverse lawyers in law firm leadership by broadening the pool of candidates considered for such opportunities.
