The office is seeking current 1L applicants for internship opportunities within the office. Deadline is Monday, January 27.
Apply in Symplicity. Search for Job # 21093. Interviews will be held on campus on February 7, 2020.
The 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office handles cases in Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert and Lincoln counties, and is located in Centennial.
As a Legal Intern in the District Attorney’s Office, you will conduct legal research and draft appellate briefs arising from driver’s license revocation proceedings and misdemeanor and felony criminal cases. Interns will also have opportunities to work with other prosecution units within the office and observe various court proceedings including trials. This internship is an excellent opportunity for extensive legal writing experience, and exposure to substantive legal issues that are not covered in law school. Work in the District Attorney’s Office provides students the opportunity to learn about criminal and civil procedure, evidence, Colorado criminal law, state and US constitutional law, and trial preparation and presentation in advance of when they would be utilizing those skills as student practitioners.
This hourly-paid internship begins in the summer of 2020 with the opportunity to work up to 32 hours per week during the summer. It is open to students who, by the summer of 2020, will have completed their first year of law school.
Students who join us in the summer and exhibit satisfactory work may be asked to continue as Legal Interns during the fall and/or spring semesters of their 2L year, with hours adjusted to accommodate for course work. After that, any Legal Intern who wishes to practice under the Student Practice Act during their 3L year would be referred to our County Court Chiefs to be considered for the unpaid Student Practice Act Internship positions available in our Centennial and Castle Rock offices during their 3L year. Summer interns are not required to continue in the program, but are encouraged to do so to become prepared and impressive candidates for student practice act positions after the 2L year, and ultimately, new Deputy District Attorneys. Preference is given to those students who wish to practice as prosecutors upon passage of the bar examination.
INTERVIEWS FOR THIS POSITION WILL BE HELD ON CAMPUS ON THE AFTERNOON OF FEBRUARY 7, 2020. APPLY VIA SYMPLICITY BY JANUARY 27, 2020 TO BE CONSIDERED FOR AN ON CAMPUS INTERVIEW.
