Below is a suggested Career & Professional Development timeline to follow during your 1L year. Please note that if you are an LLM or Master’s Degree student, we recommend setting up a meeting with a member the CDO’s Graduate Legal Studies Team at your earliest convenience.  

Career & Professional Development Plan for 1L Year

August through April – Attend career-related programming offered by the CDO.

Complete 1L Component of Career & Professional Development Requirement (“CPD”).

October 15 through November 30 – Complete your initial career advising appointment (if you plan to apply for summer positions with federal employers such as the FBI or Department of Justice, you should schedule an earlier appointment).

November 1 – Attend the DU/CU Government & Public Interest Career Fair

Before Finals – Make sure your resume has been reviewed by the CDO and is ready to go

Winter Break – Meet with the CDO to get a jump on your summer job search and meet with one or more practicing attorneys on an informational basis

January – Begin applying for summer opportunities if you haven’t done so already

January/February – Do a mock interview

March/April – Meet with the CDO to discuss how to get the most out of your 1L summer, get a jump on 2L opportunities and to continue your long range career planning
