Consider applying to the Holistic Juvenile Defense and Advocacy Seminar & Externship for Fall 2016.
An information session on this program will be held on March 2 at 12pm in room 270. The deadline to apply for the externship component is March 22.
Students can enroll in just the seminar OR they can also apply for the externship.
• The 2-credit class teaches law students a holistic juvenile defense model that includes a focus on the need to represent the youth in ongoing and concurrent procedures both inside and outside the delinquency system, and the need to consider and mitigate the “collateral consequences” of juvenile adjudications.
• It will be taught by Elise Logemann, executive director of the Colorado Juvenile Defender Center, with guest speakers from the grassroots organizing group Padres Y Jovenes Unidos, as well as other prominent lawyers in the juvenile delinquency field,
• The externship will focus on providing direct service to clients in the areas of juvenile expungement (removing juvenile adjudications from clients’ records), juvenile deregistration (removing eligible clients from the sex offender registry), and suspension and expulsion proceedings (school disciplinary proceedings).
